BRAGGING RIGHTS ARE OURS... FOR 2022
Myrtleford Ski Club held it’s 2022 race day on the 10th September. After a lot of rain over the proceeding two days, the skiers and snowboarders were greeted with clear weather and a good cover of spring snow. This year, together with the Albury Ski Club, we competed for the Founders Cup, to determine who is the fastest ski club. The atmosphere at the top of Fathers Fosters was fantastic, as encouraging words were met with banter from our opposition. Di Gavin was given the role as race announcer and did a great job, continuing to speak as her chair kept sinking into the softening snow. After a BBQ lunch and post-race debrief, we headed up the hill to Albury for drinks to discover who is the fastest club. On the back of scintillating times from Scott, Charlie, Nell, Kate, Louis, Sage and Llewela, we came home the cup and a bottle of bubbles! Back at the lodge, the victorious spirit was everywhere. It was great. We then held our award ceremony, pleasingly we had victors from nearly every family. Members of the Sanderson, Milne, Correll, Dobson, Burns, Read, Weston, Showers, Gehrig and Browne families all had a win.
In the snowboard discipline, the battle between the Burns girls this year had Lily take the prize ahead of Mila in the under 10 category. Their proud father Steve was the fastest snow boarder down the steep track. We introduced a new category this year for under 16s, and Harvey Correll will have his name on that one. Congratulations to Scott and Louis Sanderson who are the club’s overall and Junior champions respectively. Well done also to two of our novices (in a very large field), Will Read and Kate Sanderson who had a dead heat with fastest times of 37.91 seconds. Brett and his side kick Andrew did a marvelous job in the kitchen. Thanks to everyone else who pitched in to help. As the night went on, our rainbow themed party continued with dancing under the mirror ball, singing, laughter, plenty of rainbow cake and great club comradery. Special thanks to Race Captain Nell and everyone else who contributed to a great day. Alistair
