CLUB HISTORY
The trophy photographed above has been generously donated to the Myrtleford Ski Club by Margaret Dean (McPherson).  Margaret, who now resides in Mount Hutt, NZ won this MSC Ladies Novice trophy 70 years ago. We believe it may have been hand made by a member of the Club.  If anyone can shed more light on this, please get in touch. Thanks Margaret, I'm sure everyone will enjoy seeing this gorgeous treasure on display at the Lodge.

BIRTHDAY WISHES
We'd like to send a big (belated) Happy Birthday to MSC Life Member Leonie Williams. Leonie is well known to all and many will be aware that she has been unwell recently. It will come as little surprise to hear that she is doing an incredible job with her rehab and no doubt kept the staff at Thomas Hogan on their toes. We're looking forward to seeing you soon now that you are back at home in Myrtleford Leonie!

REMINDERS

All members and guests staying at the Lodge are required to complete their assigned duty tasks. This is not just at the end of your stay, but throughout the duration. It's up to all to assist the managers in keeping the Lodge safe, clean and tidy. Untidy communal areas such as the TV room, toilets and overflowing bins are a common source of frustration for all so please be respectful and pitch in to help.

Sharing illness at the Lodge is also a source of frustration. If you are unwell, please be vigilant with hygiene and consider whether you should be staying or not. Thank you!

When contacting the Managers via phone, if they do not answer, a text message is preferred to a voice message please.

VALE ELSPETH GREENHILL (ROLLASON)

The Myrtleford Ski Club is saddened by the news of the passing of life member, Elspeth Greenhill (Rollason), who passed away aged 92 at Corryong Health where she had been a resident for 5 years. Elspeth died on 4 May 2024. Known affectionally around the club as Bugga Bugga, a nick-name she earnt while racing. Legend says that, as she skied down the course and maybe missing a gate, she would shout out, “Bugger, Bugger, Bugger!” The name seemed to stick.

Elspeth grew up at the foot of Mt Buffalo and started skiing around the age of 18. Her father Richard was on the Mt Buffalo committee for many years and Rollasons Falls are named in his honour.

Elspeth and her MSC friends would travel to Falls Creek on the "Blitz" travelling up from Myrtleford on a Saturday afternoon.

A very successful representative skier for the MSC, some of her achievements:
  • In 1954, the New Zealand team came to Australia to compete against the N.E.D.S.A. team. N.E.D.S.A. was very successful, with Myrtleford having three representatives, in John Robertson, Dick Walpole and Elspeth Rollason. Elspeth came second in both Women’s Downhill and Giant Slalom and came third in the Slalom.
  • 1955 Victorian Championships, held at Mt. Hotham, she came seventh in the Slalom and fifth in the Giant Slalom.
  • 1955 Australian Championships, held at Ben Lomond in Tasmania, she came eighth in the Slalom and fourth in the Downhill.
  • 1957 Australian Championships, she came tenth in the Women’s Downhill, ninth in the Slalom and sixth in the combined.
  • 1957 Victorian Championships, held at Mt Buller, she came fourth in the Downhill and seventh in the Slalom.
  • 1960 Victorian Championships, she came eighth in the Slalom and tenth in the Downhill
A very proud and passionate member of the club, Elspeth sat on the committee from 1951 to 1958, these years were very progressive for the club, after the lodge we know today was first built in 1949.

Elspeth married in 1959 and her 1st child was born in September 1960. Her daughter Ros remembered "her taking us downhill on the back of her Skis as kids."

Elspeth's final visit to the lodge was in 2013, when she was proudly awarded life membership.

The Myrtleford Ski Club of today is indebted to our pioneering members and Elspeth can rest, knowing that her legacy of promoting snow sports in the Myrtleford region continues.
